Meet Sweet and Courageous Mitsu
Hi, this Gracia, Mitus’s rescuer. Thank you for reading Mitsu’s story.
I overheard about Mitsu staying in our campus for awhile but never actually met her. Not until that day. It was a typhoon day, I finished my lab experiment and left the laboratory to have launch, then I saw her lying on the carpet at the doorway. I walked slowly toward her; she looked up and smiled at me, wagging her tail friendly. I squatted down and fondled her, suddenly I discovered that she just has three legs! I also saw there’s a cut on her right ear which is the mark of TNR (Trap, Neutered and Released), so I thought she was probably a stray who constantly fed by somebody nearby and would leave the campus soon. So I just gave her some water and food then left.

Few days past, but Mistu didn’t leave. In contrast, she settled down in school because there were adequate food from teachers and students that she could always find a place to rest. However, it was not allowed for stray dogs staying in school, so I started to ask if anyone wanted to adopt her. Quickly, a staff told me that he bought a farmhouse and wanted to adopt three dogs and thought Mistu was suitable for farm life, but needed to wait until the farmhouse completed refurbishment about one month. After evaluation, I thought that was a chance for Mitsu, so I agreed him to adopt Mitsu but at the same time he needed to take care of Mitsu in school in this month. He promised me he would take good care of her. But not long after that, I found he didn’t even feed her! I asked him why he didn’t take care of her, unexpectedly, he told me he couldn’t adopt Mistu because the co-worker who paid for the farmhouse didn’t agree. I was upset but had no choice, so I decided to place Mitsu with an experienced paid foster home just hoping she could be adopted by a truly loving family. Unfortunately, most people in Taiwan don’t care a handicap dog, no matter how sweet and loving Mitsu is. To pay for Mitsu’s medical bill and foster care, I took multiple part time jobs. But it was never enough. Luckily, with some friends and professors’ help, I fundraised some money to encourage me searching a good home for Mitsu abroad. I studied and connected many overseas’ adoption rescued organizations but very few of them wanting to help a handicap dogs. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I couldn’t give up. One day a friend of mine recommended me to reach AHAN. With anxiety, I connected AHAN Taiwan Representative Jessamy and surprisingly she said YES without a second thought. I was thrilled.

With AHAN’s help, I took Mistu to a professional animal hospital for thorough physical exams, Mitsu is very healthy and the Vet said that the broken leg wouldn’t affect her quality life much if she could keep the broken leg’s underneath skin dried, and with weight control. Based on the X-rays, it showed no surgical traces, Mitsu was probably hit by a car and got the leg ripped off.

Despite how terrified incidents Mitsu has encountered, she never lost her trust in human. She is friendly and confident, so well behaved toward people and other dogs. The physical incompletion doesn’t limit her mobility at all. She can walk, run, going up and down stairs agilely. Mitsu is a very sanguine, staunch, adaptive, clever and obedient good girl. I sincerely hope that she can find a permanent home who will treasure her as what she is, a three-legged buddy. She surely deserves a loving home.
